Happy Birthday, Mason Grey!

November 11, 2013

Fair warning, this is a long post but I didn’t want to forget a single thing about the day that you were born!

Here is why we scheduled a c-section and here are the details of what we did the few days before your birth. Since I had a scheduled c-section, I don’t have some extra exciting birth story to tell you about; nevertheless, it was very exciting for mommy and daddy to know that on November 7th we were going to finally meet this little boy that the Lord was entrusting with as parents.

The morning of November 7th, before we left for the hospital, we took a few last pictures of my pregnant belly, some with daddy and some with grandma, then we headed to the hospital. We arrived at the hospital by 5:30 AM and they immediately took us into a room to get me ready for the c-section. Your daddy was as nervous as ever because he doesn’t do surgery or blood well….at all. I was nervous but ready to meet you. The doctors and nurse took mommy back to the OR first so that they could place my epidural and get me comfortable before your daddy came into the room. Once I was ready, your daddy came back into the room. Shortly after he arrived, I looked up and noticed that he looked very pale and sweaty. I asked him if he was okay and he said yes. I told him that if he needed to step out he should, because I didn’t want him passing out in the OR while you were born. So, he stepped in and out several times. The nurses even brought a stretcher for him into the OR hallway so that he could lay on it! There was one scary moment for me, and that was when I really began to feel light-headed and nauseous. I told the anesthesiologist that I was feeling this way, she had already begun giving me medications and extra fluid. I later was told that this happened because I was loosing more blood than they had anticipated. All turned out fine…

…and, so here you are Mason Grey Cole. 8 lbs. 7 oz., 21 inches long, born at 7:51am.

Right after birth, while they got me all settled, daddy took you to the room where your grandma was patiently waiting (since only one person was allowed in the OR). I showed up after 30 minutes and got to hold you skin-to-skin on my chest for an hour. It was amazing to finally hold you after carrying you for 9 months. So surreal.

Daddy and I are so in love with you! You are a miracle The Lord has blessed us with and we are honored to be your parents! We pray that you will get to know Him and trust in Him, because you are special and he has great plans for you! We are excited to have you on our journey of life!

Love,
Mommy and Daddy
