A Look Back at 2018

December 29, 2018

This year began with us settling into this new city that we had just moved to 3 months prior. For me that meant new beginnings and new memories. Every year brings new memories, but for us everything would be new! And boy did we make new memories in new and old places.

The first half of our year is usually pretty quiet. I love that it is quiet, because the second half of our year is always crazy busy and full of traveling. January brought winter weather. Crazy winter weather that this area of Texas never sees. Snow and ice. It wasn’t much but it was enough. We jokingly said that we brought the North Texas weather with us.

This year we attended more events together as a family than ever before. Maybe it’s because Mason is finally at the age where he will sit and enjoy whatever is happening. Our first event together was in February. We went to the Monster Truck show. We’ve been before, but this time Mason really seemed to enjoy it even more.

Our next event was officially considered Mason’s first concert where we went to see Jason Aldean at the Rodeo. His favorite part were all the snacks, ha!
In March, I also started a new job. I love where I’m at and I love the hours because I get to spend most of my days with Mason when he’s not in school. For the first time ever, Mason got to stay home with me all summer.
This Spring Break, Mason and I took a road trip to Corpus to visit his Nana. While we were there we went to The Texas State Aquarium and a Circus. When got back into town Mason and I went to visit the Houston Zoo, another first. We’ve been to many zoo’s but not the Houston Zoo. It was so big.

We even made it to an amazing and intense football game. Texans vs. Cowboys. This is a game that only happens once every 4 years and it being with family and friends made it so much more enjoyable.
Jeff and I even went to a Texans Insider Dinner and we had a really good time.
And of course I cannot mentioned the Texans without this highlight of the year. You know, that one time my husband played golf with THE JJ WATT and he didn’t invite me to be his caddy!
Mason went to his first professional baseball game with his daddy.
In May, Mason finished school for the year and our Summer began with a bang.
This year we spent a lot of times outdoors and exploring our new city.
Exploring Galveston
At the city’s 4th of July Fireworks event before we got rained out.
We found new parks.
And more local events/festivities.
We explore the beaches and rode with our top off.

We found places to fish.
We even hung out at our pool too.
This year we had friends and family visit. We loved spending time with them and even showing some of them around town.
First Thanksgiving at our house.
I mentioned that we usually travel for the second half of the year, and boy did we travel! I think this is by far the most we traveled. There were tons of road trips and of course a vacation. We road tripped to Corpus Christi, Dallas, San Antonio, and went on our annual family reunion to Concan.

First birthday for Ezra and spending our morning in Boerne.

Before Summer ended we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary and my husband celebrated his 44th birthday.
Summer ended and school began. Mason started at a new school and I can’t believe that he’ll be starting kindergarten this coming year.
Shortly after school started, at the end of September, we went on our yearly vacation. This year we went to Hawaii for our family vacation/anniversary/birthday trip. We had so much fun and it was the trip of a lifetime. While we were there I brought in year 37. I couldn’t think of a better way to welcome 37.
October came and went, and before I knew it November was here and Mason was turning 5!
We celebrated with family this year in Corpus with a bowling party.
This month my cousin flew into Corpus, from San Francisco, so Mason and I took our last road trip of the year and it was so good to catch up with him and see the family right before Christmas.
As I sit here and reflect on 2018, I’m so very grateful for every opportunity that I had to create memories with my husband, my son, family and friends. And grateful for all of the “firsts” that happened this year! While the last half of our year was somewhat exhausting and I felt like I was in a rat race, I still tried to soak up every minute of it. As a family we are praying for specific things and reaching for certain goals in 2019 and while we are unsure of what the new year will bring, we are welcoming it with open arms and open eyes.
From my family to yours, we wish you all a new year full of new memories and many things to be grateful for in 2019!
